How I got here
When I was coming to the end of my college course, I was confused about which path to take next. I was torn between attending university or getting a job. So, when my friend told me about the opportunity to get an apprenticeship where I could learn and earn in my desired career path, I applied. It made so much more sense to gain hands-on experience with industry professionals to enhance my skills, compared to sitting in a classroom.
About my role
I love my role here because every day can be different to the next. Some days, I could be in the office on shoot, filming interviews, taking headshots or editing. Other days, I can be out of the office, filming a customer success story on location, for example.
The skills I use
On a daily basis, I have to use a wide range of skills in my role, including navigating different Adobe platforms like Premiere Pro and After Effects, as well as having a decent understanding of operating DSLR cameras.
I think that the main skill essential for my job is the ability to test out different ways of approaching tasks and be creative. Although I am currently working as an apprentice, there is no expectation for me to be an expert in video production. Instead, I am expected to learn and refine my skills. The goal is to come out of this learning experience equipped to independently handle and lead projects at an industry level.
My tips for others
- Watch tutorials on how to prepare for a job interview.
- Be yourself; it doesn't matter how different you are. Think Big is for everyone.
More about me
I have been into the process of creating videos for years now. From making funny short YouTube videos with my friends when I was 11, to later filming short documentaries overseas, and making music and wedding videos. I love being a part of the process from start to finish and watching an idea come to life. In my spare time, when I'm not making videos, I like to surf, wild camp and play guitar.
