AS9102
The product verification standard for aviation, aerospace and defense manufacturers.
Verify product quality and compliance with specifications
AS9102 provides a standardized process and documentation requirements for product verification, helping manufacturers supplying the aviation, aerospace and defense industries. Building on quality management standard AS9100, it enables manufacturers to demonstrate a product’s compliance with quality standards, customer requirements and design drawings.

Ideagen solution
Conduct a first article inspection (FAI) following a fixed process to ensure the findings are thorough and accurate.
Ideagen Quality Control includes tried and tested templates and core functionality for accurate, precise FAI processes.
Verify physical and functional characteristics against drawings, purchase order, specifications and other design documents.
Centrally store all relevant documentation and specification drawings for straightforward reference at the point of need.
Measure each specification and make improvements to resolve instances of non-compliance.
Streamline and simplify the generation of non-conformance reports and implement processes to correct them with ease.
Complete first article inspection report (FAIR), consisting of three detailed forms.
Drawing information, balloon numbers and captured feature data will be instantly populated in form three of AS9102.
Ensure process repeatability for consistent quality once specifications have been met.
Establish and document best-in-class processes and ensure repeatability using workflows.
AS9102 FAQs
There’s no legal requirement for manufacturers to comply with the AS9102 standard.
However, since it has been widely adopted across the industry, many large players require accreditation for vendor approval.
A first article inspection report (FAIR) should include three completed forms: part number accountability, product accountability and characteristic accountability.
Published in 2023, AS9102 Rev C introduced a number of changes across the three FAIR forms, such as tweaks to field names and the removal of signature fields from forms two and three.
First article inspections (FAIs) are usually requested by customers when ordering a part for the first time.
However, they may also be necessary when changes are made to the product design, production process, materials, tools or manufacturing location.
A first article inspection report (FAIR) should include all key information, from part number and description, to functional test results and the physical characteristics measured.
AS9100 requires manufacturers to establish, document, implement and verify production processes.
By following the FAI process outlined in AS9102, you can demonstrate that your production processes deliver products that meet the right specifications to comply with AS9100.
