Safety leadership lessons of landmark industrial disasters
Nothing highlights the criticality of the safety professional's work like the landmark events that represent failure to manage occupational risk.
The periodic catastrophes that have rocked sectors from energy to entertainment usually have multiple causes and multiple lessons for regulators and the profession.
The forensic analysis of antecedents and root causes brought to bear in official investigations and inquiries after disasters to stop recurrences offers a wealth of instructive material.
Join Alastair Davey, consultant and coach at Esen Sol and former Global Vice President, Health, Safety and Environment at Sodexo and safety writer Louis Wustemann as they focus on the fundamental truths that safety practitioners can learn from the biggest industrial safety failures.
By joining this session, you’ll advance your understanding of:
- How the Chernobyl nuclear disaster gave birth to the concept of safety culture
- What the Texas City refinery fire teaches us about risk prioritization and the different way organizations respond to major incidents
- The Fukushima disaster and what we learn about understanding risk from a tale of two nuclear plants.
- The Piper Alpha rig explosion and how it shifted the way industrial risk is managed and regulated
- The Seveso dioxin leak and what is tells us about anticipating the worst eventualities.
