Ideagen works with local universities in key education project

Ideagen has been working with two major universities in a bid to source the next generation of software developer.
Employees from the company’s headquarters in Nottingham and its Scottish office in East Kilbride have been overseeing projects with students at both Nottingham and Glasgow Caledonian Universities.
Ideagen, providers of quality, safety, audit, performance and risk management software, tasked Computer Science undergraduates with a series of challenges over several weeks as part of their respective courses.
Successful students from both universities will then be given the opportunity to enrol in a summer internship with Ideagen as part of the company’s growing development team in the UK.
Stuart Fleming, Ideagen’s Development Manager based in East Kilbride, said: “This is a major project for Ideagen and one that we are delighted to be involved in for several reasons.
“Not only does it strengthen our relationship with two major universities in the UK to source new talent, it allows that talent to get a taste of what we are actually doing here at Ideagen.
“By taking part in this project, students are incentivised by the prospect of joining one of the fastest growing software companies in the UK and being able to work on some outstanding projects with some of the largest organisations in the world.
“These are exciting times for Ideagen and we are delighted to be forging relationships with both Nottingham University and Glasgow Caledonian University.”
The project with Nottingham University involved students creating an intelligent music system using Ideagen’s Sonos entertainment set-up. The project involved web, database and integration elements – key tasks faced by the company’s Development team day-to-day – and introduced the ‘Scrum’ project management methodology, part of an agile working framework.
Students at Glasgow Caledonian University were tasked with designing a Reporting Management System as well as implementing a Document Management System – replicating the concept and processes behind some of Ideagen’s flagship software products.
Chris Ogden, Ideagen’s Technical Project Manager who oversaw the project with Nottingham University, added: “Working with the students at Nottingham University allows us to see the best talent close at hand, identifying that talent with a view of offering them an internship and then hopefully full-time graduate employment with the company.
“It has been such a success and we are looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship with the students and staff at Nottingham University.”
